Gregory S. Vrabel 1958-2025
YOUNGSTOWN — Gregory Steven Vrabel, 66, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, 2025.
He was born Nov.19, 1958, in Youngstown, the son of Robert Sr. and Gloria Vrabel.
Greg was a graduate of Youngstown State University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in biology.
Greg and his wife, Sherri, moved to the coast of Florida shortly after he graduated so he could pursue his career and passion working as a marine biologist.
Greg loved learning and sharing his wide-encompassing knowledge with friends and family, especially at family gatherings or in trivia settings. He was a big Ohio State football fan and enjoyed going to Youngstown State football games with his son, Steven, and father, Bob.
Greg also enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, snorkeling / scuba diving, antique collecting and coaching many of his son’s sports teams.
Greg leaves to hold on to his memories, his wife, Sherri Vrabel; his son, Steven Vrabel; his father, Robert “Bob” Vrabel Sr.; sister, Laura (Peter) Mazar; brother, Robert Jr. “Jim” (Jackie) Vrabel; and brothers-in-law, Rodney (Jennifer) and Gary (Cindy) Bacher; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Jean Vrabel.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Greg’s family 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at the Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman, where a funeral service will begin 3 p.m. Monday, with Pastor Steve Rhodes, as celebrant.
Burial will take place in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
