Harry L. Moldovan 1927-2025

Harry was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Youngstown, to the late Gavril and Eleanor Pohlman Moldovan. A 1944 graduate of Boardman High School, Harry stood out as an exceptional athlete, excelling in basketball, track and baseball. Toward the end of World War II, he was drafted into the United States Army and served with distinction as a member of the military police at West Point.

Following his honorable discharge, Harry pursued higher education through the GI Bill, earning a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in 1952. While at Kent State, he was recognized for his leadership and was bestowed the esteemed title of “Duke of Kent” as president of the student council.

Professionally, Harry dedicated 37 years to Hynes Industries as a successful salesperson before his retirement. Even while building his career, he continued to embrace his passion for sports by playing semi-professional baseball with the Boardman ACs.

A man of deep faith, Harry was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman, where he proudly held the distinction of being its longest-living member. He was also active at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Louisville.

His devotion to community extended beyond his church; he was a member of the Hikes Point Optimist Club in Kentucky, where he was honored as a Kentucky colonel, a mark of distinction in the state.

Family was the cornerstone of Harry’s life. He was a devoted father and grandfather, never missing an opportunity to support them in their individual endeavors. He created countless treasured memories with his grandchildren, taking them camping, fishing and on RV trips to places like Sandusky and Myrtle Beach, where they enjoyed crabbing and other outdoor adventures.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Mark Moldovan of Canton and Kathryn Ann Moldovan of Poland; grandchildren, Molly (Daniel) Hagele, Mark Travis (Giselle) Moldovan and Mindy (Logan) Schmidt; and great-grandchildren, Leo, Winifred “Winny,” Caysen, Jaxon and Liam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, the former Sally Brown, who passed away July 25, 2023; his brother, Paul Moldovan; and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Moldovan.

A memorial celebration of Harry’s life and rendering of military honors for his service to our country will be held in the spring.
