James R. Gallagher 1944-2025
NEW WATERFORD — James “Jim” R. Gallagher, 80, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland.
He was born July 16, 1944, in Weirton, W.Va., son of the late Andrew and Dorothy Virginia Gallagher Sgalla.
Jim worked as a mail carrier in Boardman for 35 years, served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Rogers Assembly of God.
He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Jim enjoyed playing cards, being with his dog Arcee and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored.
James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen Crump Gallagher; two daughters, Amy (Kevin) Dettmer of Canfield and Colleen (Robert) Waller of New Waterford; six grandchildren, Jacob (Lindsey) Waller of Charlotte, North Carolina; Emily Rhodes of New Castle, Pa.; Daniel (Skylar) Rhodes of New Castle, Pa.; Noah Waller of New Waterford, Nathan (Taylor) Dettmer of Canfield and Aaron Dettmer of Boardman; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Tino, Avery Waller-Thompson, Landry Waller, Zayn Rhodes and Kai Rhodes. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and three cousins, Nicki, Debbie and Tina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Tammy.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at the Rogers Assembly of God, Rogers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at the Rogers Assembly of God with Pastor Ken Sevacko officiating.
Military honors will be performed by the Benjamin Firestone Post No. 290 American Legion Honor Guard.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
