Janet R. Hewlett 1942-2025
AUSTINTOWN — Janet R. “Jan” Hewlett, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday morning, Jan. 10, 2025, in the comfort of her home.
Janet was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late William and Ruth Zahniser Hellmann. She was raised in Girard and was a proud graduate of Girard High School.
Jan worked as a billing clerk with the Mahoning County Building Trades while simultaneously dedicating herself to raising and caring for her family. After her retirement, she found fulfillment in serving as a caregiver with Home Instead, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Jan previously worshipped and was active in Redeemer Lutheran Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life and guided her in all she did.
Jan will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who poured her love and energy into her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them. Whether enjoying family gatherings, caring for her beloved cats or tending to her yard, Jan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She treasured her vacations to the Outer Banks and looked forward to her monthly girls’ nights with dear friends.
Jan is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas K. Hewlett, whom she married June 9, 1962; her two daughters, Wendy Kitchen of Youngstown and Tammy Ellis of Austintown; four grandchildren, Rachael (Jordan) Blum, Alyse Kitchen (Ricardo Murillo), Jeffrey (Kelsey) Ellis and Joshua Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Hudson, Wyatt and Levi; her sister, Marilyn (Donald) Malto of Fowler; as well as many extended family members and countless friends.
Jan’s warmth, kindness, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m.
