John J. Higgins 1932-2025
LOWELLVILLE — John J. Higgins 92, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.
He was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Sharpsville, Pa., to Joseph and Helen Higgins. He attended Hubbard High School and served in the U.S. Navy for three years.
John traveled extensively and was a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He had a great passion for motorcycles, woodworking, poetry, politics, Hershey’s chocolate bars, Wrigley’s spearmint gum and old Western movies. He loved writing songs and playing his guitar. He also wrote and published two books.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he volunteered and sang in the choir. He also was the founder and member of the Gloryland Trio with his two daughters. He helped with other community projects in his neighborhood.
He retired from the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, in 1994.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 70 years, Anna M. Higgins; six children, Sheila (Jack) Noyes, Tommy (Jan) Higgins, Lydia Guerriere, Christopher Higgins, Adrian (Cathy) Higgins and Marlo (Buddy) Hamby; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, James.
The family will hold a private service upon John’s request.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
