Lou Ann Satterfield 1936-2025

She was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Wheeling, W.Va., the daughter of John and Emily Riggs Smith.

After graduating high school, Lou Ann pursued her certification later in life at Youngstown State University, laying the foundation for her career in child care.

Lou Ann’s journey through life was marked by her deep commitment to caring for others and building meaningful connections. For many years, Lou Ann dedicated herself to education and childcare, teaching preschool-aged children with love and patience. Her passion for nurturing young minds shaped the lives of countless children. In addition to her work in childcare, Lou Ann was an accomplished consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics, where she forged strong and lasting relationships with many people over the years, reflecting her vibrant spirit and talent for making connections.

Lou Ann also devoted a few years to patient care at Park Vista Nursing Home. Her compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to service provided comfort to many during their times of need.

Her faith was very important to her. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Christian Women’s League. For many years, Lou Ann was active in family clown ministry, where she and her family would dress up and visit various places speaking about God and his love. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Child Conservation League.

Lou Ann loved singing and was a part of many choirs, including Kathryn Kulmans Concert Choir and David Verzilli Ministry Choir. She also played a large part of The Sister Plus group and helped with her husband’s Christian Radio broadcast on WTOF out of Struthers in the ’70s.

Lou Ann married her loving husband, Thomas W. Satterfield, on June 13, 1954. They shared a beautiful life together until his passing, Nov. 6, 2018.

Her legacy continues through her family, including her two children, Thomas H. (Martha) Satterfield of Pinson, Alabama, and Gaye Tyhosky of Austintown. Lou Ann took great pride in her four grandchildren, Heather Neider, Lyndsey Ardito, Anna and John Thomas Satterfield; as well as her three great-grandchildren, Kylan, Sylas and Mayzie.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon, Friday Jan. 24, 2025, followed by a funeral service at noon, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, OH 44515.
