Marilynn Barber 1943-2025

BOARDMAN — Marilynn L. Barber passed away peacefully, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 14, 1943, in Farrell, Pa., the daughter of the late Michael J. and Helen L. “Holly” Brysh Stefanish.

Marilynn graduated from Farrell High School in 1961; during her high school years, she had the honor of being named homecoming queen.

After graduating, she worked for the Farrell School District as a secretary.

Marilynn was in a wedding and her partner was a young man named Dominic Barber — and the rest is history. Marilynn and Dominic “Corky” married in 1968 at St. Adalbert Church in Farrell, Pa., then made their home in Youngstown.

Marilynn belonged to the Fire Bells, a women’s auxiliary for the Youngstown Firefighters Union 312.

Marilynn belonged to a card club, the Ursuline girls, and was an honorary Ursuline graduate because of Corky.

Her love more than anything were her five boys, her grandsons; she attended all their activities and sporting events. She and her family vacationed for 20-plus years in the Outer Banks; she enjoyed that time together as a family.

Marilynn and her family are members of St. Charles Church and previously were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Youngstown.

Marilynn leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 56 years, Corky; her son, Brian (Tracie) Barber of Boardman; her daughter, Charisse (Nicolas) Mayhew of Boardman; and her five boys, grandsons, Dominick, Christopher and Anthony A.J. Barber, and Keaton and Kaden Mayhew. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Carol Stefanish.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter J. Stefanish.

Family and friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. John A. Zuraw, J.C.L.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends of Marilynn may visit www.foxfuneralhome.org to view this obituary and to leave condolences for the Barber family.
