Marjorie I. Burin 1925-2024
CANFIELD — Marjorie I. Burin, 99, peacefully passed Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024.
Marjorie, known as “Marge,” was born June 4, 1925, in Worthington, the daughter of Kenneth and Bess Kibler. Her family moved to Columbus when she was 6 months old.
Marge attended Broadview Grade School, Everette Jr. High and Columbus Central High School, where she graduated with honors and was the student speaker at graduation and vice president of her class. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University on a full scholarship and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude in 1945.
In 1951, Marge married Andrew J. Burin, an architect, and lived in Cleveland, and later Berea, where she and Andrew reared their four children, Kim, Mark, Scott and Andrea.
Marge taught speech and English at North Olmsted High School. She was also the head of the theater and arts department. She directed plays, musicals, and helped students prepare speeches, from 1965 to 1968. In 1968, she moved with her family to Liberty.
She enjoyed attending horse shows, baseball games with her sons and swim meets cheering for her daughter.
After moving to Youngstown, Marge received her master’s degree from YSU and joined PsyCare Inc. in Howland, from where she retired in 2006.
Marge will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kim (Penny) of Liberty, Mark (Kathy) of Vienna and Andrea (Greg) of Canfield; her six grandchildren, Lauren (Scott Anderson) Burin, Jennifer (Bill) Mease, Meghan (Andrew) Miller, Ashley (Dr. Matthew) McClure, Danielle Burin and Brittany Burin; her great-grandchildren, Gregory, Margot, Camilla, Andie, Jude, Jocelyn, Lillian and Audie; and her daughter-in-law, Doreen.
In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; a son, Scott; three sisters and two brothers.
An hour of calling will be held 10 to 10:50 a.m., followed by a memorial celebration of life beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, Boardman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Marge’s memory.
