HUDSON — Richard William “Rich” Gunn, 89, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

He was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Cleveland, to the late Frank Murphy and Frances Mae Fryan Gunn.

Rich is the beloved husband of Sarah Anne “Sally” Crespi Gunn, and formerly of Carol Cleo Calvin, who died in 1988; a loving father of Bryan Lynn Gunn and Brendan Richard (Angie) Gunn; dear stepfather of Lawrence L. (Mary) Meehan III, Mary Louisa (Kevin) L’Hommedieu, Rebecca Anne (David Adkins) Meehan and Bridget Kathleen (Brendan) Coughlin; and dear brother of twin sister, Carol (Charles) Cushman, and the late Patricia (Daniel) Rose and Frank Gunn.

Rich graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended classes at John Carroll University while working at Crawford Fitting Company.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 as a radio / radar technician on B47 Bombers.

He then attended Rollins College and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked on the production staff at WKBN-TV until 1966, when he started in the advertising department of Youngstown Sheet and Tube.

In 1969, Rich joined Thomas-Farragher Advertising, which would later become Ira Thomas Associates, moving up in the company to senior vice president and vice chairman of the board when he retired in 2000. He was also president of the local chapter of Associates of Industrial Advertising; a member of the Youngstown Country Club, serving two terms on the board of directors; president of the Literacy Council of Youngstown; on the PR committees for Mill Creek Park and the United Way; and was on the board of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.

Over the years, Rich enjoyed playing golf, listening to good music, traveling, visiting with the grandkids, going to soccer games — and cars, particularly his two Porsches.

A celebration of Rich’s life will be announced at a later date.

Interment of his urn will be in Markillie Cemetery in Hudson.
