Robert L. Root Sr. 1939-2025

CANFIELD — Robert Lee Root Sr., 85, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 19, 2025, after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 10, 1939, in Warren, the son of Alfred Royce and Dorothy Randolph Root.

Bob graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. After high school, he got into retail and quickly became a manager. He managed stores for different companies’ branches in Ohio, New York, Michigan and Pennsylvania. In 1988, Bob bought a dump truck and started a landscaping business, which he enjoyed. He also worked with his wife in their businesses, Shelley’s in the Boardman Plaza and Starship Limousine Service. Bob loved going on buying trips for the store. He retired in 2002.

Bob will be remembered for being kind and humble. He enjoyed taking care of flowers, feeding his birds and being with his beloved toy poodle, Peanut. He loved to be on the go, traveling, shopping and attending home, car or boat shows, concerts and movies.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of over 36 years, the former Rochelle “Shelley” Galip, whom he married Oct. 15, 1988. He also leaves his children, Roy (Misty) Root, Dallas (Rhonda) Root, William (Debbie) Root, Paula Root-Cribley, Dawn (Matt) Rocco and Bradley (Nikki) Root. He leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his father-in-law, Atty. Ronald Galip; sister-in-law, Kathy Galip; his faithful playmate, Peanut; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three children, Robert Root Jr., Christopher Root and Robbie Root; two sisters, Lillian Gelet and Ruth Tablac; twin brothers, William and Rolland Root; and his mother-in-law, Eileen Galip.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi and Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Robert’s name to Animal Charity, 8469 Southern Blvd., Bldg. 3, Youngstown, OH 44514; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
