Stephen B. Cooper 1957-2025
ELYRIA — Stephen B. Cooper, 67, passed away suddenly, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.
Stephen “Steve” Cooper was born April 8, 1957, in Youngstown, to Ann Harriet Varble Cooper and Francis Bartley “Bart” Cooper. The first of eight children, Stephen spent his childhood living in Morristown, New Jersey; Luzerne, Switzerland; Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; São Paulo, Brazil; and Canfield.
He graduated from Canfield High School in 1975, where he was the lead in several plays and musicals, and excelled in academics. Steve attended and graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and remained a lifelong Hoyas fan.
During his career in sales, he worked in Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago before returning to Youngstown, where he worked for his father at Brevini Inc.
Steve was active in the Knights of Columbus and his interests included discussing politics and foreign affairs, sports (notably basketball), photography, backpacking and his motorcycle. He was also a gifted singer and guitarist.
Steve and his wife, Jasmin Judy John Cooper, initially made their home in North Ridgeville and moved to Elyria in 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Jasmin; as well as by two brothers, and four sisters, Maria Barnes (Kevin) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Philip Cooper (Wendy) of Northampton, Massachusetts, Catharine “Katie” Engelman (Don) of Los Angeles, California, JoAnn Cooper of Alexandria, Virginia, David Cooper (Julie) of Cincinnati and Susan Cooper of Chatham, New Jersey.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Christopher “Chris” Cooper.
A memorial visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, OH 44039.
A memorial Mass will follow at noon Friday, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, OH 44039, where the Rev. Bob Franco will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, North Ridgeville.
