William J. Scarsella 1946-2025
BOARDMAN — William J. Scarsella peacefully entered Heaven’s embrace, Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025.
A proud graduate of St. Patrick’s Elementary School and Cardinal Mooney High School’s Class of 1964, Bill went on to attend John Carroll University and Youngstown State University, where he was a member of the Army ROTC. He later became vice president of Homestead House Interiors, ran Scarsella Carpet Company and worked for Landis Flooring until his well-deserved retirement.
Bill’s kindness and warmth touched the hearts of everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to remember the small, meaningful details — birthdays, anniversaries and special moments — showing those around him how much they truly mattered. His thoughtful gestures and ability to make others feel seen and valued were a testament to his loving spirit. And if you ever had the privilege of hearing his laughter, you would understand just how infectious and joyful it was — it was impossible not to smile with him.
Bill was known for his love of family gatherings, whether it was birthday dinners, holidays or any chance to share a meal together. He cherished these moments, often leading the family in prayer with a heartfelt grace before each meal. These special times will forever be remembered for the love and warmth he brought to the table, always making those around him feel truly appreciated.
Bill led a life of strength, guided by his deep faith and dedication to serving others. As a devoted member of the Catholic faith, he was an active presenter in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter program and a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to the homebound at St. Paul Parish in New Middletown.
He gave his time as Cubmaster of Pack 2 in Poland, as well as serving on the leadership council of the Mahoning Valley and Greater Western Reserve Councils of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was a past Faithful Navigator of the Cavanaugh Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. Bill’s devotion to both his faith and community never wavered.
Bill had many passions in life, but none more important than his family, his faith and his love for golf and The Cleveland Browns. Above all, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was overjoyed to become a grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Talia-Anna Rose, whose presence in his life brought him immeasurable happiness. He found so much joy in her bright spirit, and she was a constant source of love and joy for him.
Bill’s life was a beautiful example of selflessness — always putting the needs of others before his own and finding joy in supporting and uplifting those around him. He also had a remarkable ability to provide a blessing to his friends and family whenever they asked, offering his prayers and support with a heart full of compassion. His legacy of love, generosity and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was deeply cherished by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet Rose Marzio-Scarsella; his two sons, Joe (Danitra) and Tony; and his precious granddaughter, Talia-Anna Rose, who was the light of his life and brought him immeasurable joy.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian; father, John; and his brother, John Anthony Scarsella Jr.
