Christopher G. Reider 1967-2025
CANFIELD — Christopher G. Reider, age 58, of Canfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Chris was born on Jan. 25, 1967, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Paul A. and Helen M. Richards Reider, and was the eldest son of three boys.
Chris was a devoted Catholic. He attended St. Charles School and was a 1985 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School (CMHS) where he excelled both academically and athletically, with multiple accolades in football and tennis, both locally and statewide, ultimately culminating in his induction into the Cardinal Mooney Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
Chris remained a dedicated member of the Mooney Family, contributing both time and treasure to the school, including years of service as the vice president of the CMHS Alumni Board.
In addition, Chris served as a Knight of Columbus in the Father Venglarik Council No. 11915 at St. Charles.
After high school, Chris took his talents to Cleveland where he attended Case Western Reserve University. At Case, Chris was a three-year starter at defensive back for the Spartan football team and studied engineering, a natural prospective career path given Chris’ creative and mechanical mind. He excelled immensely in the classroom at Case and earned multiple opportunities to partner with some of the world’s leading companies as part of the university’s Engineering Cooperative Education Program. Chris ultimately chose to co-op at Delphi Packard Electric, the automotive parts division of General Motors Corporation.
That first job resulted in an impressive 36-year career with the company. After multiple stints in engineering and operational roles as a student, Chris earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering and chose to continue his professional career with Delphi Packard on a full-time basis. He held various roles in product engineering and throughout the engineering organization, with an impeccable reputation and a strong portfolio of patents to his name,
Chris was a considered a “rising star” at the company and was honored with a prestigious GM Fellowship wherein the company sponsored Chris for his master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Chris’ technical expertise and leadership abilities led him on an impressive career journey where he held various roles in engineering, purchasing, and operations with increasing global responsibility, and along the way, included an assignment in Dusseldorf, Germany and two expatriate assignments in Shanghai, China. Chris cherished the time spent living and working verseas in Europe and Asia, describing those experiences as life-changing for his family.
Chris retired as Vice President of Global Engineering.
Chris led a values-driven life deeply rooted in a commitment to hard work and excellence, motivated by new challenges, the opportunity to learn, and a desire to make a difference. For Chris, the formula was simple: do what you love, put forth maximum effort and everything else will fall into place.
Chris was a devoted friend to many and spending time with friends was very special to him. As a guitarist, Chris loved music from a young age and enjoyed his annual trips to Jimmy Buffett shows and country music concerts with Trish and his friends.
He was passionate about sports. Whether it was coaching tennis at Cardinal Mooney, spending time on the golf course with his buddies or enjoying football weekends at Notre Dame, he was so happy spending quality time with his friends. He especially loved playing bocce in the summer at the MVR. It was not uncommon to see Chris prepping the bocce courts in the spring at the MVR in anticipation of the summer season with a nice cigar in his mouth and a beer in his hand.
Chris was also extremely passionate about his role as president of the Mark Vincent Pelini (MVP) Foundation, an organization with a mission to support local educational scholarships and programs, athletic programs and community-driven initiatives. Similar to the foundation’s namesake, Chris lived a truly selfles Foundation and the core values upon which it was built.
Above all, Chris was a loving, devoted husband and father. Thirty-four years ago, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Trish Roncone. He and Trish built a beautiful life together, experiencing many great accomplishments. No accomplishment was greater and more important to them than their three children, Kelsey, Gianna and Sydney. Together as a family, hey lived in Canfield and enjoyed vacationing in Siesta Key and Marco Island, Florida, in addition to traveling the world while living abroad.
Chris leaves to cherish in his memory his beloved wife, Trish Roncone Reider; his children, Kelsey, Gianna and Sydney; devoted parents, Paul and Helen Reider of Canfield; brothers, Paul (Jennifer) Reider of Canfield and George (Desiree) Reider of Cleveland; in-laws, Christine (Tim) Steigerwald of Cincinnati, Anthony (Kathy) Roncone of Columbiana, Terri Roncone of Boardman, Cindy (John) Toohey of Canfield and Dan (Jen) Roncone of Columbus; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at Our Lady of MountCarmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
Memorial contributions may be sent in Chris’s name to the Mark Vincent Pelini (MVP) Foundation.
