Dr. Hugh Weily 1939-2025

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Dr. Hugh “Corky” Weily, who passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, in Scottsdale, following a surgical procedure.

Dr. Weily was born June 24, 1939, in Youngstown, to Margaret and Fred Weily, and graduated from South High School Class of 1957, where along with several classmates, established the South High School Golf Team.

Upon graduation, Dr. Weily attended Western Reserve University and was accepted to Tulane Medical School after just three years of undergraduate studies. Upon completing his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he served two years in the United States Army at the rank of captain.

Upon discharge, he was admitted to the Colorado Medical Center, where he completed his residency in cardiology and assisted in developing the angioplasty procedure.

In 1973, Dr. Weily was one of the founding physicians of South Denver Cardiology, where he will be remembered as a great physician, loved by his patients, SDC physicians and staff, and a great example of who South Denver Cardiology is to the community.

Upon retirement, Dr. Weily, an avid golfer, and his longtime partner, Natalie Kane, spent winters in Arizona golfing, traveling, and living a vibrant and active life.

Sadly, he leaves his longtime companion, Natalie Kane, with whom he shared a home; his daughter, Dani (Wes) Coplen, and granddaughters, Rae and Finley; son, Reed (Sarah), grandson, Noble, and granddaughters, Driver and Atlas; brother, Robert Weily (Katie and Rory); nephews, Dr. William (Jennifer), and their children Ethan, Olivia and Lauren; and Ryan (Dr. Mindy Price) and their children, Leigh, Skylar and Makenzie.

Any donations may be made to the American Heart Association, in Dr. Weily’s memory.

Rest in peace, Corky.
