Eleanor E. Spicko 1928-2025

NEWTON FALLS — Eleanor E. Spicko, 96, passed away peacefully into eternal rest, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Adventura at Assumption Village, North Lima.
She was born July 13, 1928, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Walter Rutana and Marie Przepiora Rutana.
Eleanor had lived in Newton Falls since 1960 and was formerly of New Springfield, where she graduated from New Springfield High School, Class of 1945.
She then met the love of her life, Edward T. Spicko, and they were married on Oct. 4, 1947, enjoying 38 years of marriage together until his death, Nov. 18, 1985.
Eleanor was the president / owner of Spicko’s Supermarket (Shop ‘n Save) in Newton Falls for over 70 years. She was a faithful member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years.
Eleanor loved being with her family, cooking, going to casinos, watching Cleveland Indians baseball and working at her store, bagging groceries.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward T. Spicko; one daughter, Linda Spicko; two sisters, Julia Sakoman and Lottie Kurjan; and four brothers, Stanley, Ted, Chester and John Rutana.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Roland and Susan Spicko, both of Newton Falls; one grandson, Nick (Tara) Roland of Hudson; her great-grandchildren, Ben, Max and Reagan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at the James Funeral Home, Newton Falls, where a prayer service will be held 10:30 Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Newton Falls, with the Rev. David Merzweiler presiding.
Private graveside services will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Edward.
