Eugene E. Rindy 1931-2025

MASURY — Eugene E. “Gene” Rindy, 93, passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2025, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House, Youngstown.
Mr. Rindy was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Sharon, Pa., a son of the late John and Anna Zavada Rindy. He was a 1950 graduate of Sharon High School, where he played on the basketball team and was affectionately known as “Fudge.”
Gene honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean War as a military police, in charge of guarding atomic bombs.
He attended Youngstown College until he was offered a job at Bell Telephone. Gene worked in the maintenance department for more than 40 years and was a proud Communications Workers of America member.
Gene was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, Pa.
He was also a member of bowling leagues at Thorton Hall and the former Hickory Bowl.
His wife, the former Patricia Picino, whom he married June 23, 1956, at St. Bernadette Church, passed away March 8, 2017. They shared many hobbies, most notably ballroom dancing.
Gene was a highly involved father and grandfather. He took his children on many vacations and countless day trips. Later, he looked forward to babysitting his grandchildren. He also had a passion for doing magic tricks and earned the nickname from his grandchildren’s friends as “Magic Grandpa.” Gene also enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing the lottery.
He is survived by two daughters, Jill Marconi, and her husband, Michael of Boardman, and Jenny Jackson, and her husband, Rick of Williamston, South Carolina; a son, John Rindy, and his wife, Wendy of Poland; a son-in-law, William Hurton, and his wife, Tammy of Hermitage, Pa.; five grandchildren, Lucas and Jenna Rindy, Taylor Marconi, Matthew Gambrel, and his wife, Megan, and Matthew Hurton; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Hurton; and five siblings, Cecilia Chioffi, Helen Spencer, Eleanor Purdy, Maryann Ferrara and Raymond Rindy.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of the Valley – Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Youngstown, OH 44514.
All services were held privately.
Entombment is in St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
