John W. Douglas, 1941-2025

McDONALD — John W. Douglas, 83, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

John was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Kenneth W. and Agnes Bryn Douglas.

John was first employed in North Dakota as a high school science teacher for eight years. He then worked for American Handicraft for six years and retired from Radio Shack as a store manager in 2004.

He was a graduate of Mayville State College in North Dakota. John was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Association, the B.O.P.E. Elks Lodge, Brookfield Conservation Club, where he held the position of director and vice president, the Girard Multi-Generational Center and was a lifetime member of Clan Douglas Society of North America.

John participated in many black powder shooting competitions, enjoyed gardening, photography and cooking, and always enjoyed visiting and conversing with friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Loretta Schloss Douglas, whom he married May 17, 1969; his brother, Greg (Pam) Douglas of Ridgefield, Washington; and seven nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, James Wallace Douglas, who died Aug. 12, 2024.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Blackstone Funeral Home, where family and friends may gather 1:3o to 3 p.m.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., Girard, OH 4442o, in memory of John.
