Karen J. DeMatteo 1939-2025

HUBBARD — Karen J. DeMatteo, 85, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown.
Karen was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Youngstown, a daughter of Fred G. and Marcella A. Zins Larson. She was a 1957 graduate of Hubbard High School and looked forward to her class reunions. Karen attended Youngstown State University.
She worked at Philip Levy CPA and Hartford Insurance Company Claims Division. For nearly 40 years, Karen was an administrative assistant at Youngstown State University, retiring in 2015.
Karen was an accomplished quilter and donated dozens of quilts to charity over the years. She enjoyed many crafts and took great pride in tending her yard and beautiful gardens. She was an active, lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she had served on church council and the finance committee, and she was a member of the choir and the quilting club.
Her husband, Thomas E. DeMatteo, whom she married Dec. 2, 1972, passed away May 15, 1995.
Karen will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her son, Gregory DeMatteo (Angela Nestor) of Hubbard; sisters-in-law, Barbara Larson and Theresa Ann Mageros; uncle, Robert (Ann) Zins; and chosen family, Laura (James) Tarr, Makayla Tarr, Alyvia Tarr, Bob (Cathy) Miller and Lexa Miller.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; beloved brother, Fred Larson; and companion, Kenneth Miller.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, with calling hours 2 to 3 p.m., at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
Karen will be laid to rest in Hubbard Union Cemetery.
