Kathryn F. Lazich 1938-2025

BROOKFIELD — Kathryn Frances Lazich, of Brookfield, peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, while at home and surrounded by the love of her family, following an extended illness. She was 87.

Kathryn was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Sharon, Pa., a daughter to John and Barbara Jean Klecic Greguric.

A 1956 graduate of Brookfield High School, she worked as a treasurer for the Brookfield Local School District for 25 years before she retired.

Kathryn was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Sharon; Croatian American Civic Club, Farrell; and the Croatian Fraternal Union No. 126 where she participated in their bowling league for many years. Kathryn was a talented member of the Tamburitzans, where her love of dance began at a very young age. As a child and young adult, she was active with the Croatian American Civic Club Tamburitzans. It was through this club that Kathryn met the young Joseph Lazich, who soon became the love of her life.

Kathy and Joe continued to be a part of the Veseljaci Tamburitzans well into their adult lives. Kathy also enjoyed hitting the casinos, playing poker with her brothers, family, and friends, yelling the occasional “BINGO,” bowling, baking, cooking, hosting holiday dinners and backyard lamb roasts. However, spending time with her grandkids completed her life. Kathy will forever be known and remembered for her positive outlook on life and for her sweet nature. The world is slightly dimmer today without her never-ending smile.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Joseph Anthony Lazich Sr., whom she married Oct. 13, 1962; children, Joseph Lazich Jr. and Kelly Carsone (fiance, John Higgins), both of Brookfield, and Kristi Sydlowski (Jamie) of Vienna; grandchildren, Christopher Lazich, Ashley (Craig) Scudder, Zachary (Talia) Hackett and Dana Sydlowski; great-grandchildren, Emmett, Benjamin, Miles and Archer Scudder, and Roselynn, Scarlett, Brian, Christina, Lelue, Luka and Alexander Lazich; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob, John, Frank, Joe and Steve; and a grandson, Anthony Lazich.

A time of gathering to honor Kathryn’s life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, located at 379 State Route 7 SE, Brookfield, Ohio. Her celebration concludes with a prayer service.

She will be laid to rest in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.

As suggested by her family, memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Croatian American Civic Club c/o the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy can be left for her family at www.bricelandfuneralservice.com.
