M. Marguerette Chambers 1930-2025
MINERAL RIDGE– M. Marguerette “Maggie” Chambers passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Maggie was born April 21, 1930, in Mineral Ridge, to Solomon B. and Marie E. Helwig Pearce.
In the summer of 1952, she was set up on a blind date by family members and met Kenneth Chambers, who was on leave from Germany, where he was serving in the U.S. Army. The two dated for the remainder of his leave and by correspondence before marrying July 25, 1953, at Mineral Ridge Church of Christ.
Ken and Maggie were married for 66 years until Ken’s death in 2019.
Maggie’s enduring love of music began at age 5 when she started taking piano lessons. At 12, she began serving as the pianist at Mineral Ridge Church of Christ. Maggie was also one of the first girls to join the Warren Junior Military Band when they were allowed in 1945. Maggie remained active in Mineral Ridge Church of Christ, where her husband, and later her nephew, served as elders and trustees. Maggie served as the pianist and organist for the church choir and played at many weddings and funerals for the next 70 years before she retired. Maggie spread her love of music to others and encouraged her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to participate in school band and choir.
Maggie was a dedicated wife and homemaker, but more importantly, she was a loving mother, aunt, great-aunt and grandmother to her children, her many nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren. She played a pivotal role in raising nieces, nephews and all her grandchildren, and made sure they were never lacking in love, compassion or baked goods. Maggie gave her love freely to not only her family and community but also by adopting many family friends as honorary grandchildren.
She was a lifelong resident of Mineral Ridge, living here her entire life, except for when Ken’s Army career took them briefly out of state. They returned to Mineral Ridge in 1954 to start their family. She was a proud member of Mineral Ridge High School Class of 1948 and dedicated to preserving the history of the town where she and her family lived and served for several generations, including her father as the town’s last mayor.
Maggie is survived by her two children, Mara (Fred) Piersol and Gordon Chambers; six grandchildren, Brien (Emily), Megan and Kenneth Piersol, and Eric (Breanna), Robert and Michael Chambers; four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Charles Piersol, and Oaklyn and Greyson Chambers; nephews, Kenneth Guy (Joan), Richard and Joe Craig, and Beacher (Ruth) Pearce; and three grand-nieces, Sally (Mark) Phillips, Jennifer (Joe) Harvey and Amy (Pete) Shelby. She is also survived by her loving friends and caregivers, Marty, Jan and Laura.
Maggie was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles H. Brown, Betty Guy, Nell Baker, Edna Davis, Ethel Craig, Rhodell Shorrow and Beacher Pearce; husband, Kenneth Chambers; and niece, Charlee Stone.
