Marlene Hulton-Poluse 1942-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Marlene Rose Virag Hulton-Poluse, 82, passed away peacefully, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with a terminal illness.

Marlene was born April 15, 1942, in Youngstown, to Steven A. Virag and Elizabeth “Betty” Kovach Virag. Marlene graduated from Chaney High School in 1960.

She worked at a couple jobs that she loved: assistant produce manager for a grocery store on the west side of Youngstown and manager of Austintown Jewelry & Pawn for numerous years until she retired.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, known for her kindness, generosity and love of traveling.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Lynn Hassett of Youngstown and Brian George Hulton of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as her grandsons, Steven Bresnahan, Matthew Bresnahan, Cameron Hassett, all of Youngstown, and Jason Hasset of Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elaine; her first husband, Oliver George Hulton in 1992; and her second husband, Vincent Poluse in 2018.

A private service was held with immediate family members.

A celebration of life will take place in the springtime.

The family would like to thank the staff at Windsor House at O’Brien Memorial in Masury and hospice for their compassionate care during Marlene’s illness.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all the arrangements for the family.
