Michael R. Scandy 1957-2025

EDMOND, Okla. — Michael Robert Scandy was given to the world Nov. 15, 1957, in Youngstown, to Gabriel and Mary Bea Scandy, and left us Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, the only time he was ever early.
He was a man who lived a life too great for words: a novel seems more fitting than an obituary. He will be remembered for so many things, but everyone will remember his effortlessly cool personality.
After graduating from Canfield High School in 1975, he followed his family to Pima, Arizona, where he began working at his aunt and uncle’s nursing home while attending Pima Community College. He then took a job working in the uranium mines in Grants, New Mexico, before moving to Oregon to start a chimney sweep partnership. Ever the lover of nature, he spent a summer planting trees in the north basin of the Grand Canyon.
Being unable to stay away from his family for long, he returned to Arizona, finally settling in Oklahoma, where he has lived for the last 40 years.
A force in the hospitality business, he was a career bartender with notable stints at Cactus-Rita’s Del Rio and Friends Bar, where he made everyone feel like his new best friend.
A true manly man, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening and all things cars — but more than anything, he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Scandy; children, Danielle and Todd Carmichael of Pasadena, Texas, Amanda and Jon Pat Dickinson of Oklahoma City, Hannah Scandy of Tulsa, Alanna and Shawn Laguna of Oklahoma City and Gabriel Velasquez of Norman, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Tyler, Tristan, Tallen, Bridgette, Kaden, Khloe, Myla, Dominic, Makayla, Bryce and Taylor; and great-granddaughter Sophia, as well as an extensive network of friends and extended family all across the country.
In true Mike Scandy fashion, the family will celebrate his life with a Viking funeral on his beloved Oleo Ranch in the spring in which all who want to celebrate with us will be welcome.
