Phillip J. Angelo 1942-2025

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Phillip “Phil” Joseph Angelo, 82, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 4, 2025, at Hospice of the Valley in Youngstown.

Born May 24, 1942, in Struthers, he was the son of the late Michael and Carmel Zokle Angelo.

Phil was a 1960 graduate of Union High School.

On April 24, 1965, he married his beloved wife of 52 wonderful years, Roberta ‘Bobbi’ Kolodjeski Angelo, whom he met on a blind date. She preceded him in death, Jan. 4, 2018.

He had a vast career in his lifetime. In 1981, he worked as assistant superintendent of transportation for PennDot. He then went on to work as a district operation manager at Taco Bell from 1983-1992. Following his employment with Taco Bell, he was a sales manager at Acme steak food service from 1992-1998. Lastly, from 1998-2004, until his retirement, he was part owner and office manager at Snelling Personal Services located in Youngstown.

Coaching Little League and teaching youth sports was a passion of Phil’s. He loved watching TV, mostly sitcoms, Cleveland Browns football and Cleveland Indians baseball. Phil had a green thumb and loved taking care of his plants. He also enjoyed cooking wedding soup and perfecting his homemade sauce.

Some of Phil’s fondest memories were traveling to his favorite vacation spots, Niagara Falls and Indian Rocks, Florida. He will always be remembered for decorating the family home for Christmas that would put Clark Griswold to shame.

He was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his children, Michael Angelo, and wife, Beth; Mark Angelo, and wife, Kayleigh; Mitchell Angelo, and wife, Lindsey; Melanie Johnson, and husband, Todd; and Matthew Angelo, and wife, Shannon; one brother, Anthony (Dolly) Angelo; two sisters, Phyllis Caparso and Rosemary D’Apolito; 10 grandchildren, Zach Angelo, Julia (Max) Pollock, Layla Angelo, Madison (Deondre) Montford, Donovan Angelo, Addelyn Angelo, Austin (Alissa) Clark, Shelby Scott, Carmela Johnson and Kenley Angelo; and eight great-grandchildren, Kendal, Riley, Dawson, Tucker and Walker Clark, Leo Pollock, Sakari and Cecilia Montford.

In addition to his parents and wife, Phil was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Angelo, and infant brother, Robert Angelo.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral procession will leave the funeral home 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, for a Mass of Christian Burial service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Camillus Church- Holy Spirit Parish, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, PA 16105.

Entombment will be alongside his wife in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lowellville.
