Robert D. Macala 1956-2025

BOARDMAN — Robert D. Macala, 68, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones following a brief hospitalization.

Bob was born July 6, 1956, in Youngstown. He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and Youngstown State University.

He was employed by and retired from the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office as a real estate account manager.

Bob was an active and devout parishioner at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell and a longtime member of the St. Michael’s Civic Club.

Bob was a free spirit and loved life. One would definitely describe Bob as an ardent and loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns, the Guardians and the Cavaliers! He was a devoted family man and enjoyed hosting family holidays and cookouts.

He and Dolly enjoyed their annual vacations to Myrtle Beach and Geneva-on-the-Lake, and enjoyed trips with Dolly to the tracks in Wheeling and Weirton, W.Va. But above all else, Bob cherished most the time spent with family celebrating life events.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Valerie, affectionately called Dolly; son, Adam Macala of Boardman; daughters, Stephanie (Scott) Yungen of Salem and Melissa (Travis) Bartscher of Vienna; and four grandchildren, Brianna Bartscher, Peyton and Elliot Youngen, and Tristan Smith. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Attorney Ronald G. (Sally) Macala of Canton and Kenneth A. (Maryann) Macala of Boardman; and sister-in-law, Lori Reese-Rogers. Bob will be fondly remembered by several dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and neighbors.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Dubos Macala.

Bob’s family would like to thank the medical staff at Mercy Hospital and Hospice House in Boardman for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

The Macala family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, 216 Coitsville Road, Campbell, OH 44405.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at the funeral home, where a Panachida service will take place after calling hours.

Services will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Divine Liturgy funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 463 Robinson Road, Campbell, OH 44405, with the Very Rev. Kevin Marks as celebrant.
