Robert D. Moran 1936-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Robert Dennis “Denny” Moran, 88, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1936, in Youngstown, a son of the late Robert and Helen Fitch Moran.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Robert demonstrated an unwavering dedication to his country.

Following his military service, he began a 25-year career as a millwright at Packard Electric. He was deeply involved in the International Union of Electrical Workers. Robert’s commitment to the labor movement extended to his role as a mediator for the National Labor Relations Board, where he sought fairness for workers and advocated for their rights.

Robert’s passion for education and community engagement was recognized when he received the Pope Pius X Excellence in Teaching Award. He was also an active member of St. Michael Parish in Canfield and St. Christine Parish in Youngstown, where he shared his faith and commitment to others.

In addition to his work, Robert was a devoted family man, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Jeffrey) Palmer of Westlake, Cynthia (Kevin) Windham of Lisbon and Lisa Herndon of Norman, Oklahoma; his son, Matthew (Nicole) Moran of Kent; 11 adoring grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret E. “Sally” McCarragher Moran, whom he married June 27, 1959, and who passed away Dec. 4, 2o21; a brother, Tom; and two sisters, Sandy and Anita.

Family and friends may call from 9:45 to 1o:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Christine Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning County, P.O. Box 224, Youngstown, Ohio 445o1.
