Sallirae J. Absalom 1932-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Sallirae J. Absalom, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.

She was born Aug. 24, 1932, to the late Carl and Kathryn Powers Schreiber.

She retired in March 1989 from Kaufmann’s Department Stores, last working as benefits manager at O’Neil’s in Akron.

A 1950 graduate from Ursuline High School, she was the chairman of the reunion committee for many years. A Campfire leader for 16 years, she was the recipient of the John Collier Award, the Wakan Award and the St. Anne Award. Active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home and School Association, she served as president, treasurer and secretary. She was also a bookkeeper for the church and the school.

She leaves three daughters, Kathy (Ray) Bokesch, Mary DelSignore and Theresa (Nick) Doinoff. She also leaves behind a brother, Charles K. Schreiber; and a son-in-law, Fred Bacak. Eight grandchildren will miss her presence as well, April (Rick) Lobaugh, David (Erin) Kagle, Erika Campolito, Alexandra (Mike) Deonofrio, Taylor Henderson, Jason (Leah) Doinoff, Cassandra (John) Slipski and Courtney Doinoff. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Her husband, James Edward Absalom, whom she married Aug. 18, 1951, preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Bacak; a great-granddaughter, Lillianna Nicole; sister, Nancy L. Tkalec; her brother-in-law, Steve Tkalec; and a brother, Victor Schreiber, who died at birth.

Calling hours for Sally will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Parish, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, OH 44515.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to graciously thank the staff at the Woodlands at Austinwoods for their care and the hospice workers who helped Sally at the end of her life.

Arrangements were handled by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
