Shirley Myers 1936-2025

CANFIELD — It is with great sadness that we announce Shirley Tolbert Myers passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at home, at the age of 88, from an extended illness.
Shirley was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Fairchance, Pa., to the late Edward and Eleanor Tolbert. She was a valedictorian graduate from Fairchance High School in 1953.
Shirely married Ewing Myers on Oct. 13, 1957, and they spent 37 wonderful years together until his passing, Oct. 3, 1995. They moved to Austintown on April 1, 1959, and made it their home.
Shirely retired in 2001 after over 30 years working in the accounting department at Wean United.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (G.G.), and was known as Grandma Shirley to most neighborhood children. Her hobbies included counted cross stitching, plastic canvas, word searches and jigsaw puzzles, and she was a member of Western Reserve United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Starlet Thomas of Austintown and Kathy Myers of Austintown, with whom she made her home; two granddaughters, Sarah (Mike Jr.) Maloney of Austintown and Jessica Creech (Devon) of Barberton; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca Maloney and Michael (MJ) Maloney III, both of Austintown, Robert Smith and Emma Creech, both of Barberton; sister, June Hardy of Fairchance, Pa.; sister-in-law, Florella Silvis of Murrysville, Pa.; along with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her “#5,” Gloria (Roger) Miklasiewicz of Niles; and her “furbaby,” Hope.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Dorthy Tolbert; husband; two sisters, Betty Jayne Jefferies and Janet Wolfe, both of Pennsylvania; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Southern Care Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion for Shirley and her family.
Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, with a service to immediately follow and a luncheon directly after the services.
