Sr. Rose Marie Kramer, HM 1933-2025

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Sr. Rose Marie Kramer, HM, formerly Sr. Gilmary, 91, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at Villa Maria Community Center.
Originally from Canton, she graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary later that year from St. John the Baptist Parish. She professed her perpetual vows in 1957.
Sr. Rose Marie was a highly regarded educator and administrator whose faithful heart shone through her ministry. She taught at secondary schools in the Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown dioceses, including St. John High School, Ashtabula; Erieview Catholic High School and Lourdes Academy, Cleveland; Magnificat High School, Rocky River; and Villa Maria High School, Villa Maria, Pa. When Villa Maria High School closed in 1989, Sr. Rose Marie served on the staff at the newly created Villa Maria Education Center. She went on to become the center’s director until 2003, laying the foundations for Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, which was established in 2005.
She served the HM Community as the directress of the juniorate for sisters in temporary vows and served for two terms in congregational leadership. She gave her time as a board member to numerous organizations over the years, including the steering committee of the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking, Cleveland; St. Martin de Porres High School, Cleveland; Community Health Partners Foundation, Lorain; and Magnificat High School, Rocky River.
Sr. Rose Marie was among the first recipients of the Pittsburgh Diocese’s Manifesting the Kingdom award in 1999, which recognizes exceptional service to the church. She was inducted into the inaugural class of Magnificat High School’s Fine Arts Hall of Fame in 2023.
In recent years, she celebrated her 70th Jubilee as a Sister of the Humility of Mary.
Sr. Rose Marie served with her sisters in the HM Ministry of Prayer at Villa Maria Community Center until her death.
The daughter of the late Wilbur and Edith Clark Kramer, and sister of the late Jack Kramer, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation, with whom she shared her life for 74 years.
A Rite of Return and viewing will begin 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria, Pa., with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.

A Prayer of Remembrance celebrating the life of Sr. Rose Marie Kramer is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, via Zoom.
