Alice Oates 1933-2025

LIBERTY — Mrs. Alice Hayden Gregory Oates, 91, was escorted by God’s Heavenly Angels to her mansion in the sky Monday, March 3, 2025, from her son’s home with loving family at her side.
Mrs. Oates was born June 15, 1933, in Youngstown, a daughter of Harry and Alverna Payne Hayden. She attended Choffin Dental Assistant School and Youngstown College.
She was employed with Delphi Packard Electric for 33 years, working in supervision and production.
Alice was a member of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, a former member and secretary of its Gospel Choir, Nurses Guild, Class Leader, Trustee, past Stewardess Lay Organization, past president and vice president of the Senior Usher Board; present supervisor of the Junior Usher Board; member of the Ambassadors Club.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Elder Eric (Bess) Hayden Sr. of Campbell and John (Pam) Gregory of Columbus; a sister, Marvis Lewis of Xenia; 10 grandchildren, Eric Jr. (Vernice), Jared, Wayne, Derrick, Sherri, Perry (Erika), Francesco (Mallika), Crimson, Camden, Deveonne (Emmanuel); 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Carol, Jeni (Gary Sr.), Teresa and Gary Jr. and other family, church family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Russell Sr., she was preceded in death by one son, Russell Oates Jr.; and three brothers.
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, 521 W. Earle St., Youngstown.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10 a.m. at the church.
