Frank Bennett 1950-2025

AUSTINTOWN — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Bennett, 74, a loving father, husband, brother and friend. Frank peacefully passed surrounded by family Friday, Feb. 28, 2025. His battle with some serious medical issues showed his courage in facing life changes with a smile despite the pain.
He was born on April 5, 1950, to Joseph and Kathryn Bennett.
Frank graduated from East High School in 1970 and kicked off his career at Republic Steel right after. He worked as a motor inspector electrician for 25 years before going on disability from LTV Steel in 1995.
Frank was a proud member of the Steelworkers Union as well as a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus #3930 (3rd Degree) and Jesus Mary and Joseph Assembly #3055 (4th Degree). Frank spent 12 years coaching soccer at I.H.M. He made Renewal at Immaculate Heart of Mary 25 years ago and went on to serve on the Renewal team.
Frank was a legend in the kitchen, often teaming up with his good buddy, John Ozman. Whether it was running the beer tent or handling the cake and coffee booths at the festival, he was always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed bowling for the Sokols over the years and most recently enjoyed bocce with his Knights of Columbus friends. He was also a proud member of the East High School Class of 1970 reunion committee.
Traveling the world with his beloved wife, Peggy, brought Frank so much joy, especially during their summer trips to Geneva on the Lake. He loved entertaining friends and family at their campsite, with late-night card games of “Screw Your Neighbor” being a favorite with Peggy and their lifelong friend, Rosie Ferranti. Hunting, fishing and poker runs were also among his favorite pastimes. Known for his love of good food and wine, Frank earned the nickname “Frank the Pepper” for his canned peppers. He also enjoyed taking his uncle on weekly trips to the racetrack and never passed up an opportunity for an afternoon nap.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Margaret “Peggy” L. Bennett; his daughters, Colleen (Graham) Shryock of Columbus, Kimberly Bennett (Samantha McMurtrey, fiancee) of Hilliard and Joilyn (David) Freeman of East Liverpool; and son, Frankie L. Bennett Jr., of Austintown. He treasured spending time with his granddaughter, Danika Freeman of East Liverpool. He is survived by his sister, Beverly K. Bennett of Youngstown (Sam Mairoana III, friend). He also leaves behind Michael J. (Lorraine) Murphy of Youngstown, Mary Kay Sharp (Jim, deceased) of Youngstown; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Tim) Peterson of Covington, Kentucky, great-nephew Daniel Michael Peterson of Covington, Kentucky, Murphy Lynn Sharp of Chicago, Illinois and Brian Sharp of Columbus; granddogs, Whiskey and Monty Shryock, Pivot Bennett and Reggie Freeman, along with grandcats, Teak Shryock, Phoebe andChandler Bennett, who will miss him dearly.
