Janice L. Rhattigan 1945–2025

AUSTINTOWN — Janice Louise Rhattigan, 79, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, leaving behind a life filled with faith, family and friendship.

She was born April 22, 1945, to her loving parents, Adam and Evelyn Miller, in Youngstown. She was a joyful and generous soul from an early age.

In 1972, she married Daniel Rhattigan, with whom she shared a wonderful partnership. During their marriage of almost 53 years, she was a devoted mother to their two sons, Sean Rhattigan and Danny Rhattigan. She was also a proud “meemaw” to her beloved grandson, Liam, boasting about her love for him constantly.

Janice had a huge and kind heart, and her life was underscored by a passion for helping others. A proud graduate of South High School in 1963, Janice enjoyed being a homemaker and went on to support education in various capacities as a teaching assistant and classroom aide for many years in the Youngstown City Schools.

She was deeply involved with her church as a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church until it dissolved and, later, Canfield Presbyterian Church. In church, she was known for her powerful voice as a singer in the choir and as a deacon, supporting the needs of the church and giving back to the broader community. She was a generous and kind soul, giving her time and support to everyone around her, especially those in need.

Above all, Janice found her greatest joy in the company of those she held dear. She loved spending time with family and friends, hosting holiday dinners and parties, and shopping — she loved shopping — and gift-giving was one of her favorite things in life. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and games and puzzles were lifelong hobbies, never missing an episode of her favorite game shows.

Besides her parents, Janice was also preceded in death by her siblings, David Miller and Susan Miller Zografides.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Daniel Rhattigan; sons, Sean (Pam) Rhattigan of Chicago and Danny Rhattigan of Las Vegas; grandson, Liam Rhattigan of Chicago; brother-in-law, George Zografides of Youngstown; and sister-in-law, Sandi Miller of Toledo; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Janice had a zest for life and a contagious smile that brightened the days of those around her. She displayed immense courage and a positive outlook until the very end, after battling many chronic diseases in recent years. She is now at peace, surrounded by her loved ones that went before her, and is with the Lord she worshiped her entire life.

The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of her memorial service at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at noon on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., Canfield, OH 44406.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Canfield Presbyterian Church in Janice’s honor, supporting the faith and community that meant so much to her.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements for the family.
