Jerry F. Angelo 1936-2025

CANFIELD — Jerry F. Angelo Jr., 89, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on Sunday morning, March 2, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife and family. His life was a testament to love, faith and creativity, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Born Jan. 11, 1936, Jerry grew up in the Smoky Hollow area of Youngstown, where he cultivated a deep appreciation for family and community. He graduated from The Rayen School and went on to earn a degree in civil engineering from Youngstown State University.

Jerry dedicated his career to the Youngstown Street Department, the Edward J. DeBartolo Company and Simon Properties, joyfully retiring in 2002.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Loretta Cycyk Angelo; five children, Marlana Bachtel of Austintown, Carolyn Sippy of Twinsburg, Ronald (Linda) Angelo of Massillon, Mary Angelo of Boardman and Joseph (Erin) Angelo of Canfield. He also leaves behind two stepchildren, Nichole (James) Carrabbia of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Andrea (Tom) Rouan of Hampstead, North Carolina.

Affectionately known as “Papa,” he cherished his role as a grandfather to 15 grandchildren, a step-grandfather to seven step-grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Bo.”

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry F. Angelo Sr. and Adeline “Tillie” Bifolco; his beloved daughter, Lynette Bodnar; his siblings, Joseph Angelo, Louis “Red” Angelo, Ann Tuscano, John Angelo, Nancy Fusillo and Eleanor Capalucci; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Sippy.

An accomplished artist, Jerry often downplayed his talent, signing his artwork with the name “Giro,” a term of endearment from his wife. His paintings, which grace the walls of his home and those of his loved ones, reflect a passion for beauty and creativity that will be cherished for generations.

In his younger days, Jerry found joy in sailing the local waters, often playfully asking Loretta to “tow the rope” when the winds were uncooperative. He delighted in playing “Kings in the Corner” and chess with his grandchildren, always accompanied by an abundance of cookies and ice cream.

In retirement, Jerry dedicated countless hours to his garden, creating a sanctuary for birds, deer, squirrels and other wildlife.

His love for nature was matched only by his devotion to his faith. A lifelong member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Jerry attended daily Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted. He found joy in singing Italian melodies and sharing daily Bible scripture readings with his grandchildren, embodying a life of prayer and devotion.

The cornerstones of Jerry’s life were his unwavering faith and his deep love for family. He adored his wife and children, finding his greatest happiness in their presence. His final words to Loretta, “Ti Amo,” encapsulate the love that defined his life.
