John J. Lesnansky 1932-2025

POLAND — John J. Lesnansky, 93, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, March 17, 2025, at Aventura at Assumption Village, surrounded by the love and prayers of those closest to him.

John was born March 1, 1932, in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Rose Varga Lesnansky. A lifelong resident of the area, John was deeply rooted in the Youngstown community and left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

He was a proud graduate of East High School, Class of 1950, and following his graduation, John answered the call to serve his country, proudly enlisting in the United States Navy. After his military service, John attended Ohio University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He then embarked on a successful career with Chrysler Corporation and later dedicated many years to the Federal Government in the Department of Defense until his retirement in 2001.

John’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He was a devout member of the former St. Stephen of Hungary Church in Youngstown and currently attended Holy Apostles Parish. He served as a lector at St. Stephen of Hungary Church and during the Mass for shut-ins. John also served as chairperson for the finance committee at the church and on Bishop George Murry’s advisory council. His faith extended into every facet of his life, and he was active in many faith-based groups, including the Oblates of St. Benedict, the Neocatechumenal Way International and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

In addition to his deep faith, John was a member of Delta Sigma Pi and Phi Kappa. He found great joy in building connections through these organizations and treasured the friendships he made along the way.

An avid traveler, John explored the world, visiting Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Italy and the Vatican, Benelux, the Romance Provence and every state in the United States — with Colorado holding a special place in his heart. He also had a passion for antique cars and took great joy in collecting and restoring them.

John is survived by his extended family, including his cousin, Phyllis Horvath; Eric Cromwell Sr. and family, especially his goddaughter, Emily Cromwell; his brother, Frank Lansing of New London, Connecticut; and several close friends, including the Rev. Melvin Rusnak, who provided care and companionship during John’s final years.

Family and friends are invited to pay respects 11 a.m. to noon Monday, March 24, 2025, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 421 Covington St., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon.

John’s life was one of faith, service, and love — a true ambassador for Christ in Youngstown and beyond. May he rest in eternal peace.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
