Lori Stickel 1960-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Lori Stickel, 64, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. She was the daughter of Robert Sr. and Margaret Droney.

She married the love of her life, Richard “Dickie” Stickel, on Aug. 21, 1982, and they were married almost 43 years. She loved him dearly and was so proud of the life they created with one another!

She graduated in 1978 from Chaney High School, where she was head majorette. Lori attended Youngstown State University, where she studied journalism.

She worked in various positions at Southside and Northside hospitals for 35 years. She was a member of St. Christine Church.

Lori was an avid sports fan and loved ALL her Ohio teams.

Lori always took high pride in watching her brother Bobby play football growing up. She was his biggest fan and best friend. She invested all her time in watching her two daughters play sports and never missed a game, ever!!! She always instilled in them to reach for the stars and be tough! She then went on to do the same for her two grandkids, where she refused to ever miss a game. She always wanted to be present. She never wanted to miss a moment. Her happiest times on this earth were with her family. No doubt about it! Birthdays, holidays and summer times by the pool always were the best. Those are the things that made her so happy.

She loved taking care of her beautiful display of flowers every spring and summer, loved sitting on the porch and watching the birds. She always said her parents and brother were visiting her through nature. She had a heart of gold and genuinely cared about everyone. She was always a fighter. No matter what life threw at her, she was tough as tough can be. She never let anyone know her weaknesses and reminded us until the very end to always stay strong and never give up, no matter what the outcome! She was the glue that held the family together. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind her husband, Richard Stickel; daughters, Kelly (David) Heginbotham and Katie Stickel (Sean and Addi Houser); two grandchildren who were her pride and joy of life, Krystal and Davey Heginbotham. They were the ones who kept her going the most and she loved them more than anything in this world; sister-in-law, Bernice Durkin; niece, Shannon Durkin; brother-in- law, Louie Stickel; uncle, Ray (Marylin) Droney; aunt, Francis Handel; many cousins all whom meant so much to her; and the family dog, Brutty.

Besides her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Droney Jr.; nephew, Sean Durkin; and many aunts and uncles.

Private services were held for family and close friends.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
