Margaret J. Muscatell 1935-2025

STRUTHERS — Heaven gained another angel, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, when Margaret Jean McCauley Muscatell, 89, passed away.
Lovingly known as “Peggy” to her family and friends, she was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Tarentum, Pa., a daughter of the late Donald and Mary Alice (Petrilla) McCauley.
She married James Muscatell at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Lowellville, on March 19, 1955. They were married a week short of 70 years.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to travel, having been in 43 states. She enjoyed visiting casinos with her husband, enjoyed gourmet meals, and celebrity floor shows in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She worked at Harrah’s Casino in Reno, Nevada, at a young age. She loved crocheting afghans for friends and family.
Peggy was a true military wife. She made a home for her family wherever her husband was stationed during his 22 years in the military and raised her sons when he was on overseas tours. While living on military bases, she and the other wives and husbands would aid each other with food, babysitting and anything needed when their spouses were on overseas tours or away on military duty.
She was a member of Christ our Savior Parish in Struthers.
Peggy is survived by her husband, James; sons, Brig. Gen. (retired) James (Nancy) Muscatell Jr. of Puyallup, Washington, Donald (Karen) Muscatell of Midlothian, Virginia, and Joseph (Joette) Muscatell of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Taylor, Dominic and Karina; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family wants to especially thank Joy Smolnik, who helped Peggy through her three-year bout with Alzheimer’s disease. She was her friend, neighbor and caregiver, and was there whenever Peggy needed help. We also want to thank the employees of Aventura at Assumption Village for their loving care.
Friends will be received 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, with a prayer service at 5:45 p.m.
Peggy will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
