Michael S. Kulyk 1939-2025

MIDLOTHIAN, Virginia — Michael S. “Butch” Kulyk, 86, formerly of Poland, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 1, 2025.

He was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Coraopolis, Pa., to Michael S. Sr. and Ruby Kopec Kulyk.

Mike attended Ambridge High School in Pennsylvania.

He worked for J&L Steel after graduating, and then served his country as a military policeman with the United States Air Force. While stationed in Omaha, Nebraska, he attended the University of Nebraska part-time, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree. He moved to eastern Ohio after his discharge and worked as an accountant for Kobacker’s shoe stores before becoming a longtime tax manager for the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalen “Maggie” Kulyk, whom he married May 25, 1963, and who passed away Aug. 31, 2013, at the age of 71. Mike’s 50-year marriage to Maggie were the best years of his life.

He is survived by their two sons, Stephen (Tracy) Kulyk of Midlothian, Virginia, and Jeffrey (Sue) Kulyk of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two granddaughters, his “Stephie” Stephanie Kulyk and his “Monkey” Michelle Kulyk. He also leaves behind three siblings, Rodney Kulyk of Cary, North Carolina, Marsha Wilkins of Smyrna, Delaware, and Stacey Lanzarotta of Richmond, Virginia, who was a steadfast source of comfort and companionship for Mike during his final months of illness.

Calling hours will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Charles Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

Internment will take place in Poland Riverside Cemetery with military honors.

The family requested that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, Ohio, 44512, where Mike had previously served as an usher.
