Sr. Marjorie Haidet, HM 1931-2025

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Sister Marjorie Haidet, HM, formerly Sr. Jerome, 94, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Villa Maria Community Center.

Originally from Louisville, she graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in 1952 from St. Louis Parish. She professed her perpetual vows in 1957.

Sr. Marjorie found great delight in her life in nurturing both young minds and the growing things of God’s creation. She entered the HM Community on her 21st birthday and taught for 40 years at parish schools in the Cleveland and Youngstown dioceses, including St. Philip Neri, Cleveland; St. Christopher, Rocky River; St. James, Lakewood; St. Joseph, Massillon; St. Stephen, Niles; St. Paul, Salem; and St. Paul, Canton. Sr. Marjorie served as principal at St. Patrick, Hubbard; St. Paul, Salem; and St. Brendan, Youngstown.

In 1996, she retired from teaching and began working with homeless women and their children as a staff member at Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard. In her 14 years at Emmanuel, Sr. Marjorie always had a ready smile for everyone and appreciated the lessons she learned from those she served.

Her generous spirit led her to begin volunteering in the Villa Maria Farm greenhouse in 2011 where she seeded flowers and vegetables that would be sold in the greenhouse and transplanted into the Villa gardens. Volunteering at the greenhouse added to her appreciation of the wonders of creation.

Sr. Marjorie retired from active ministry in 2016 and joined her sisters in the HM Ministry of Prayer until her death.

When she celebrated her 70th Jubilee in 2022, Sr. Marjorie reflected on her time as a Sister of the Humility of Mary with a grateful and joyful heart, saying she had been blessed with the support and love of so many that God provided along her journey who made it possible for her to contribute her humble part in doing God’s work on Earth.

The daughter of the late Robert and Aurelia McKimm Haidet, and sister of the late Joanne Zachman and the Rev. Francis Haidet, she is survived by her brother, Richard Haidet; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation, with whom she shared her life for 73 years.

A Rite of Return and viewing at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria, Pa., will begin at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, with Mass at 10:30 a.m. The funeral will be livestreamed.

A Prayer of Remembrance celebrating the life of Sr. Marjorie Haidet is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, via Zoom.
