Tommy L. Hubbert 1953-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Tommy Lee Hubbert, 71, of 623 Ferndale Ave., Youngstown, departed this life at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Washington Square Healthcare Center, following complications from an extended illness.
He was born June 11, 1953, in Youngstown, the son of Jim and Loretta Henry Hubbert, living in the area for two years, coming from Warren.
Tommy was employed with Hills Department Store for three years in maintenance before retiring in 1999. He also worked for General Fireproofing and was a 1973 graduate of The Rayen School.
He was a member of the Church of the Living God and enjoyed fishing, sports, gardening, playing chess and cards. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a PV2-E2 from Oct. 21, 1971 to March 22, 1973, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge M-16 rifle.
He married Sally Mae Jethroe Hubbert on Oct. 15, 2001; she died Feb. 5, 2023.
He leaves to mourn, four sons, Abdul Artis, Kevin Carver and Brandon Hubbert, all of Youngstown, and D’Andre Bennett of Warren; four daughters, Ms. Antonette (John) Davis, Ms. Lateia Carver, Ms. Monique Hubbert and Ms. Chelsea Bennett, all of Youngstown; five sisters, Ms. Jessie Hubbert and Ms. Marrietta Wilkens, both of Youngstown, Ms. Evelyn Isaac of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ms. Danita (Raymond) Logan and Ms. Mary Etta Wilks of Chicago, Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ms. Ellen C. Carver; one son, Tommy Hubbert Jr.; two brothers, Freddie Hubbert and Dennis Cook; and four sisters, Ms. Charlotte Hubbert, Ms. Rosemary Hubbert, Ms. Deborah Ann Cook and Ms. Mara Lynn Hubbert.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, March 14, 2025, at Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Chapel, with calling hours 11 a.m. to noon.
Burial will take place in Belmont Park Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
