William Hastings 1952-2024
AUSTINTOWN — William “Bill” Hastings passed away July 11, 2024, surrounded by family, love and good music. His daughter and niece held his hands as he transitioned.
Bill was born Dec. 24, 1952, in Cleveland, to the late Mary and William Hastings.
He was a connoisseur of dad jokes, the type to moo in a crowd of slow-moving people or tell his teen daughter that Bon Jovi called while she was out. His calm nature provided an irreplaceable refuge for his children and grandchildren.
During his younger years, Bill worked in the computer industry before it was cool, and enjoyed golfing with his buddies. In retirement, he took on many hobbies and impressed everyone by excelling in them all, from cooking large holiday meals to building elaborate fairy doors. Other pursuits included growing orchids, collecting marbles and typewriters, and perfecting the art of avoiding bothersome people. Bill’s ability to take life in stride and not sweat the little things is something to strive for.
He is deeply missed by daughters, Christine Piazza and Amy McDonald; grandchildren, Anthony, Annalea, Zakary and Rowan; great-grandson, Troy; siblings, Mary Ellen Hagenauer, Timothy, Dan and Rosanne; and nieces, Sarah, Megan and Theresa.
A celebration of life will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bain Cabin in Cleveland, 21077 N. Park Drive. Casual attire.
