Dr. Arthur H. Smith 1964-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Dr. Arthur H. Smith, 61, passed away Friday morning, March 21, 2025, at his residence, with his loving family by his side.

He was born March 15, 1964, in Youngstown, the son of Earl and Joann Pazel Smith.

Art was a 1982 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School before serving for four years in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning home, he worked for the Tamco Co. as a maintenance mechanic for 10 years. Art’s desire to never stop learning led him to the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in May 2002, specializing in emergency room medicine. Art’s compassion for his patients and his dedication to the practice of medicine led him to be respected by many patients and colleagues alike. Through his love of learning and teaching, Art enjoyed working with numerous medical residents throughout his career, many of whom became lifelong friends.

He also achieved a Master of Computing and Information Systems degree from Youngstown State University and was presently attending Kent State University and pursuing a PhD in Computer Science.

Art had a passion for life and enjoyed various hobbies, including music, astronomy, stamp collecting, rock collecting and reading. However, spending time with his devoted family and his cherished cats brought him the most joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Charisse Speicher, whom he married July 3, 1993. He also leaves behind his father, Earl; a son, Alexander; two granddaughters, Ava and Veda; a sister, Marlana (Andrew) Opsitnik; his mother-in-law, Anna Marie D’Abruzzi; a sister-in-law, Pam (Dave) Jones; nephews, Zachay (Ashlee) Jones, Connor (Cori) Jones, Nathan Opsitnik and Matthew Opsitnik; two great-nephews, Gavin and Eli; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Art will be dearly missed and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and his incomparable sense of humor.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Arrangements for Dr. Smith have been provided by the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.
