Emilia Sloan 1932-2025

Together again

GIRARD — Emilia “Millie” Sloan passed away peacefully, Friday, April 18, 2025, at her residence, Shepherd of the Valley Liberty, with her family by her side.

She was born on April 23, 1932, in Campbell, the daughter of the late Anthony and Concetta Zinghini Cua.

Emilia’s greatest love was her family. Her favorite times were traveling and camping with Bill and the children all across the United States.

She enjoyed getting together and spending time with her siblings, nieces and nephews at summer reunion picnics and the annual Cua Christmas parties.

On Feb. 3, 1952, Millie married the love of her life, William “Bill” A. Sloan Jr. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, Campbell.

Emilia was baptized Catholic and years later surprised her husband by becoming Lutheran and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown.

Together they made Austintown their home. In the winter months she lived in their home in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Millie is survived by her children, William A. (Barbara) Sloan III of Newton Falls and Shirley Sloan of Austintown; daughter-in-law, Faye Sloan of Austintown; seven grandchildren, William A. Sloan IV of Vienna, Sheila (Michael) Kapics of Poland, Lisa (David) George of Poland, Rebecca (Thomas) Alexander of Indianapolis, Indiana, Teddi (Ryan) Reese of Canfield, Kari (Michael) Duponty of Canfield and Bryan (Kristie) Griffith of Poland; 13 great-grandchildren, William V, Drew and Emma Sloan, Kylie and Macey Kapics, Benjamin and Elijah Alexander, Ryan and Kaden Reese, Sloan Duponty and Andre and Anthony Griffith.

Besides her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William A. Sloan, Jr.and her son, Ted R. Sloan. Also her siblings Antoinette Bentfeld, Mario Cua, Carol Shannon, Samuel Cua, Helen Varone, Rose Smrecansky, Frank Cua, Pat Cua and Mary Liberati.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a funeral service at noon.

Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.
