Frank A. Rock 1935-2025

PAINESVILLE — It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Frank Anthony Rock, 89, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at home and surrounded by his loving family.

Frank was born May 21, 1935, on the east side of Youngstown, son of William (fka Biagio Larocco) and Mary Naples Rock. He lived most of his life in Mahoning County.

On April 19, 1958, he married his sweetheart, Marlene Pezzuti (deceased, April 29, 2023).

Frank was drafted into the Army shortly thereafter, where he served two years in Germany, with Elvis Presley, returned and served one year stateside in North Carolina, and finished his Army career in 1964 as a sergeant after serving in the Reserves.

Frank worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until he graduated from Westminster College in Pennsylvania with a master’s Degree in education.

Frank was an elementary teacher in the Niles City Schools for 30 years and continued as a substitute teacher over 10 years for Struthers City Schools.

Frank spent many winters in Florida and eventually moved to Painesville to be near his beloved grandchildren. He attended all of their events, supported their endeavors and was an active part of their lives.

Frank was an active member of the Lions Club in Struthers for many years. Frank was a devoted parishioner of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers and St. Mary Church in Mentor. He enjoyed the Silver Sneakers program at the Painesville YMCA, where he made many friends.

Frank loved sitting in the sunshine, planting flowers and working in his garden. He was always up to play a board game or cards with his grandkids and friends. He was a faithful friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed listening to the radio and watching baseball. Frank was a professional shopper and loved food; he was always finding the best deals around town, including all-you-can-eat buffets and restaurant specials.

He leaves a son, Dr. Michael Rock and his wife, Natalie; doctoral student granddaughter, Nora; and high school junior, Adam.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marlene Pezzuti Rock; his parents; sisters, Loretta and Marie; and brother, William.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Clemente Funeral Home, 700 Fifth St., Struthers, OH 44471.

Funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church.

Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
