Louis M. Lukz 1950-2025

He was born Jan. 2, 1950, in Warren, the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Zupon Lukz.

“Sweet Lou,” as he was known to his family and friends, was a member of St. Pope John XXIII Parish-St. Stephen Church Campus and a graduate of Niles McKinley High School, Class of 1968.

Lou spent several years working for Hartzell Rose & Sons Fine Clothing as a salesman. Fine clothing was his passion. He then went to work as a case worker for the Trumbull County Child Support Agency, retiring after 32 years of service.

Lou enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Michigan football team, as well as his beloved Niles Red Dragons, where he was the team’s quarterback.

Lou will be remembered for his cheerful and easy-going personality, as well as his dapper style and tasteful wardrobe.

He was always there for his mother, Mary, after their dad passed suddenly, and for his younger brother, Tommy, who was still at home. Later, he did the same for his son, Ryan.

Lou maintained an open-door policy to friends and family, who appreciated his famous hot sausage and peppers and a cold Genesee Creme Ale. Nilesites remember his daily walks on Robbins Avenue and the winning touchdown he threw for the Dragons against Warren G. Harding in 1967.

Lou leaves behind his only son, Ryan Lukz, (fiance, Destiny Silhan) of Howland; three brothers, Frank (Betty) Lukz of Columbus, Joseph (Joyce) Lukz of Niles and Thomas (Cheryl) Lukz of Long Grove, Illinois; two grandchildren, Quinn and Lainey Lukz; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister.

A Rite of Christian Service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, 330-652-2422. Family and friends may call 11 a.m. till the time of service.

A private family burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Niles Community Services.
