Michael J. Luteran 1957-2025

COLUMBIANA — Michael J. Luteran, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ unexpectedly, Friday morning, April 11, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Michael was born April 4, 1957, at Pepperrell Air Force Base in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the son of the late John W. and Sarah A. Langford Luteran. He was a 1975 graduate of Poland High School, where he lettered in football and baseball, and proudly served as co-captain of the football team. He continued his education at Youngstown State University and later earned his master’s degree in education from Walden University.
Michael dedicated 17 years of his life as an eighth-grade science teacher at Champion Middle School, retiring in 2018.
Prior to his teaching career, he worked for two decades at Arby’s Inc., culminating in a position as district manager.
A passionate golfer, Michael enjoyed time on the course and was a longtime member of a golf league at Firestone Farms Golf Course. He loved all kinds of sports and was a dedicated fan of baseball and football teams at all levels.
God gave Michael an exceptional gift of music, which he used willingly in his 44 years as a member of Old North Church. He sang in the choir and also served as a deacon, and was a Boys Brigade leader in his earlier years.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Judith Lynn Pittman Luteran, whom he married June 28, 1980; his brother, Jay (Jane) Luteran of Mentor; his brother-in-law, Mark (Rita) Pittman of Venice, Florida; nieces and nephews, Jill Horonzy, Jeff Luteran, Carrie Newhart and Kimberly Layton; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 4:30 p.m.
