Robert L. Boano 1940-2025

POLAND — Robert “Bob” L. Boano, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic.

Bob was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of the late Jack and Margaret Yash Boano.

He was a 1958 graduate of Struthers High School. After graduation, he worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company for a year, then enlisted in the United States Army in August 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1962. He was stationed in Fort Eustis, Virginia, and spent six months in Greenland.

Upon returning home, he worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 10 years before leaving to work for the United States Postal Service as a mail handler for 36 1/2 years until his retirement. He belonged to the National Postal Mail Handlers Union and the American Postal Workers Union.

Bob was a car enthusiast. He enjoyed car cruises, taking his 1940 Ford Coupe and 1970 Chevy Nova, alternatively, and meeting up with his friends. In the early ’60s, he belonged to the Asphalt Angels Car Club. He also belonged to the American Legion Poland Post 15.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his high school sweetheart, Anne Simich Boano, whom he married Nov. 28, 1964; his sons, Robert A. (Theresa) Boano of Poland and Ronald J. Boano of Austintown; his daughter, Lori L. (Anthony) Ficorilli of Wheaton, Illinois; his eight grandchildren, Robert, Rachel, Ryan and Dominic Boano, Joseph, Sophia, Olivia and Rocco Ficorilli; along with six nieces, two nephews, seven great-nieces and three great-nephews.

He had a deep love of his family, and in turn, they loved him back.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Boano; a niece, Jackie Rotunno; and a great-niece, Amy Rotunno.

Friends will be received 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers, where prayers will be held at 1:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

He will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered for his service to our country.
