Susan J. Johnson 1947-2025

STRUTHERS — Susan Jayne Johnson, aka “Aunt Susie,” 77, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born April 30, 1947, in Youngstown, a daughter to the late William T. and Lucille Frondorf Johnson. Susan was a 1965 graduate of Poland Seminary High School.
She worked many years in retail, starting at Save More, then to Bargain Port and finally at Pat Catan’s in Boardman, where she loved teaching arts and crafts skills to the public and families. Painting holiday and Santa ceramics was always something she enjoyed. She was always up for a game with her family and friends.
A woman who was true to her faith, you could always find her reading her Bible.
Susan owned a side business, “Creation in Cake,” with her best friend, Sharon L. Causer, making fabulous cakes for birthdays, weddings and any occasion in between. Showing off her love for baking, she enjoyed her moments being able to share her skills with her many nieces, especially how to make edible flowers, and of course, the proper way to eat an olive.
In addition to baking, Susan loved to travel to many exotic places in the world where she would capture her beautiful surroundings and place them in her scrapbook. One of her favorite memories was going to the Packard Music Hall for the McKinley Players in the ’70s and meeting the actors at the Players Restaurant. She was always that cool aunt that everyone wanted.
She is survived by her sister, Aberta “Bertie” J. (John) Morrissey; and brother, Timothy “T.J.” (Mary) Johnson of Canfield; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older sister, Barbara A. Colangelo; and brother, William T. Johnson Jr.
A celebration of life will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the AMVETS, 305 Elm St., Struthers, OH 44471.
