Nauseated by all the political grandstanding
DEAR EDITOR:
I had to chuckle when I saw a piece on Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania “blasting” Norfolk Southern about the latest train derailment in New Castle, as if the train conductor wanted to have this derailment?
My father worked for the PRR, Penn-Central and Conrail Railroad, for 45 years. I can remember numerous times in the 1960s and 1970s when my father would be gone for days attending to train derailments in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This isn’t something new!
Nowadays, thanks to social media, every day happenings are a big deal. Just like roads and highways that are far from perfect that sometimes cause accidents, there are thousands of miles of train track that constantly need to be maintained and repaired. While I agree there must be more safety protocols in place for our railways, especially after the East Palestine disaster, the “grandstanding” by all our politicians is getting nauseating to watch and / or read. Just get all the affected parties in one room and hammer out a solution.
Act like adults. Enough already!
