There is no telling truth from lies these days

DEAR EDITOR:

I will never forget the violence, mob brutality and destruction of our nation’s Capitol culminating with death threats against our legislative representatives. I revisit this horror in my mind almost like a nightmare. It was not a nightmare. It was real. Anyone with any form of moral compass would never see this insurrection as an act of patriotism. That election WAS NOT STOLEN!

Yet now we are living in such a dystopian, lying universe we cannot tell truth from lies. Trump’s interview with Kristen Welker revisited the dirty lie Trump has been feeding the American people that the election of 2020 was stolen from him. This man’s pathetic ego cannot move from that moment which he wants to rewrite to his benefit.

The true patriots are the individuals who testified to the events of that day. Hearing a respected Judge like J. Michael Luttig (a Republican) publicly attest to Trump’s criminality helped me to solidify truth from lies. The evidence that was gathered was not a conspiracy. It seems the police who were brutalized and broken have been ignored and forgotten as true protectors of our seat of government. Just think about it…they could have fired their weapons but did not. Trump has been able to avoid responsibility for his crimes, but the truth will prevail in time.

World turmoil is center stage right now. Trump is not the stable leader that is needed to navigate our nation amidst such turmoil. His shortsightedness, poor impulse control and extremely poor judgement make him unstable and at the whim of the criminals who are advising him. Then there are the billionaires whose wealth buys elections and bought this election for Trump.

I am sick of it all. I hope to be part of a resistance, which will relentlessly speak against the endless lies. Right now in Ohio there is no representative legislator that I can trust to give voice to my concerns. Ohio turned to the so-called dark side, pandering to power and money.

This paper in an editorial dated Thursday , Dec.12, 2024 shamelessly compared President Biden to George Santos, the disgraced New York representative who lied about his entire background. It seems journalism has succumbed to the highest bidder. Why do you not print the thousands and daily lies Trump has bombed the Nation with on a daily basis? I very seldom read about Trump in a negative light in the Vindicator. The only voices are those printed in the Sound Off or weekend letters to the editor.

Holding out hope for a more perfect union takes a tremendous amount of patience and persistence. Right now the power in the United States is in the hands of powerful oligarchs and felons. This Christmas I am praying for a hedge of protection from this current downward spiral in our nation’s democracy.
