Rivers’ retirement is loss for the Valley

DEAR EDITOR:

I would like to begin by congratulating Dan Rivers on his retirement. May God bless you with many years of health and happiness.

With that said, I am dismayed that IHeart radio (570-AM) has chosen NOT TO REPLACE him with a local voice! Armstrong and Getty are plain awful! They laugh constantly and use “choice words” more often than I care to hear.

I called the radio station shortly upon Dan’s exodus and was made aware that there is no phone at the local radio station, that all calls are forwarded to a Cleveland station. The phone rang many times and finally a prerecorded voice told me to leave a message. I then expressed my concern about no longer having a local voice to lean on. I asked that my call be returned so I could express my concerns. It has been several weeks now, and I have yet to have them return my call. I have become keenly aware that the station, which is now headquartered out of Cleveland, finds it more appealing to not have to pay a new broadcaster’s salary and to go with a syndicated station!

Dan was a respected voice in our community who kept us up to date on local happenings and we have now lost a voice! Am I the only one who is saddened by not having someone who lives in our community, who truly understands its needs, and who is a voice for each and everyone of us? Sadly, I have now quit listening to morning radio! However, I am hopeful that a local voice will be forthcoming!
