Trump’s tendency to “demand” that which is not his, is bombastic buffoonery. Regarding the Panama Canal, it is akin to a construction company demanding you hand over the keys to your paid for home because they built it. Because of the strategic importance of the canal, 47 would show a glimmer of statesmanship by offering to help with needed canal improvements in return for lower rates for U.S. shipping. He favors, though, senseless, tough-guy chest thumping for the applause of his base.

While watching President Carter’s funeral services, we see so many dignitaries in attendance. Left or right, wrong or soundoff@tribtoday.com right, Democratic or Republican, a solemn occasion. Am I the only one to notice the absence of Snoop Dogg and Jelly Roll?

As the Biden administration has sent billions of dollars, including military equipment to Ukraine, I think they should do the same for our fellow Americans who are losing homes and all their possessions due to the wildfires in California. The news media has yet to mention FEMA helping. The citizens of our great country probably would appreciate this money helping our friends here, rather than going to Ukraine.

It is important for all to know the true facts concerning the Panama Canal. Contrary to what the president-elect is saying, here are a few true facts: First, the canal does not discriminate for the Chinese ships passing through the canal by the neutrality treaty and international law. Second, the canal does not charge the U.S. unfairly high rates again by treaty agreement. Third, U.S. Navy vessels receive priority passage. Fourth, the Canal Authority funds all its own repairs.

How is it that my right to an attorney becomes the taxpayers’ burden if I can’t pay? Shouldn’t I be responsible for mysoundoff@tribtoday.com self? If I’m convicted and jailed, again the taxpayers pay for my keep. Why don’t the taxpayers have the right to NOT pay for criminals’ keep? It’s bad enough we make millionaires of our politicians, must we pay for all crime committed against us?

“I am a proud Canadian and detest Donald Trump and everything his family stands for. He is an embarrassment to the world. No way in hell would I ever want to be a part of the country he has turned into utter chaos. He turns my stomach. I still find it hard to believe that he won that election fairly and that such a monster is about to become the president of the United States.” … So true.

How anybody can look at the total devastation from the ongoing fires in California and not be ashamed of Trump, a convicted felon, ridiculing and concocting falsehoods about the enormous loss of lives and homes and wonder why we have sunk so low as to have lost any humanity that may be left not only in politics but in our everyday lives. He reduces our lives to insignificance with his crass talk.
